TRY THE VEAL

Okay just kidding we don't know any good veal places. You can get a great steak at El Gaucho though at 2501 1st Avenue at the corner of Wall.

Unfortunately last night I passed two very dressed unhappy people leaving El Gaucho muttering about bad service. Ooops. You El Gaucho kids might want to check that. But the bartenders are always nice.

TASTE THE WINE

Seattle Cellars Limited at 2505 2nd Ave. has wine tastings every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. It is walking distance so no drinking and driving worries, wine tasting will make you feel cultured, and if you just got one of those Dear John letters (hello John) go meet someone new.

PLAY SOME POOL

When is the last time you played a good game of pool? Um, how about a bad game of pool?

Stop by Belltown Billiards, 90 Blanchard St., the food is great, they have a smoking section (yay!) and pool is fun. Even if you're very bad, pool is fun. Don't ask me how I know that.

PAMPER PAWS

EuphoriCo Salon at 2505 2nd Avenue (#106) is doing First Friday $20 manicures and pedicures. Proceeds go to EuphoriCo's charity of the month and everyone should get a pedicure for the new year right now.

SEE AN ART MARKET

Nation at 1921 5th Avenue (corner of Virginia) hosts artist's "Rummage" every first Sunday of the month from noon to 5 p.m. free. (It's on the third floor so use those gams.) Sort of a ho-down art market, artists show up with T-shirts, paintings, jewelry, CD's. Proceeds go to the artists. Someone said there is air brushing there too (what the?).

Nation : We don't have the phone number (and neither does City Search shocker) but how hard can finding the corner of 5th and Virginia be?

HAVE FRIENDS OVER - AND DON'T WASH THE SHEETS

Need a cool place to put a guest that is not the refrigerator? Ace Hotel at 2423 1st Ave (next door to Cyclops Restaurant at the corner of Wall) is the coolest hotel we've seen. Stepping into the lobby is like stepping into a hotel in Switzerland -- it's true we have been to hotels in Switzerland -- it's stark, beautiful, rooms have real wood floors, and the prices are great. It's also next door to Cyclops and Cyclops has the best lambchops and mashed potatoes in town so skip the dishes too.
