CRIME : WHO GOT ROBBED THIS WEEK?

Last we heard there was a crime spree raging on Second Avenue but the most details we got were a portable radio walked out of Subway Sandiwches and a crazy was attacking traffic and pedestrians outside Rendezvous until police arrived and got a standing ovation from a traumatized crowd of pedestrians. Ooops. Meanwhile, broken windshield glass is appearing regularly on the Wall Street sidewalk between First and Second Avenues. Hmm, maybe that is not a good spot to park over night. . . .

BCC UPDATE : BELLTOWN COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING

This from Zander Batchelder : The next Belltown Community Council meeting is Wednesday the 23rd at 6 pm at Arbor Place, 121 Vine Street. The BCC will discuss outreach strategies, the monorail, and the neighborhood center.

THINGS AROUND TOWN : WHERE DID THOSE BOXES COME FROM?

Has anyone else noticed those metal boxes riveted to street light collumns in Belltown? Next time you are walking down the street, check the street light columns, you are bound to see one. They have a message about the creation of Belltown on them. And no, we did not put them there. We do not know who put them there. We just think they are interesting. Look for them.

PILFERRED NEWS : MONORAIL UPDATE

According to Belltown Paper the ETC has reviewed monorail routs and station locations and elimiated 3rd and 5h Avenues for engineering reasons. 2nd and 4th Avenues are still planned stops for the moment. Questions about the monorail in Belltown should be directed to rebecca@balloug.com.

PILFERRED NEWS : VIADUCT UPDATE

According to Belltown Paper Carol Hunter and Kristen Nielson from SeaTran presented three options for replacing the Alaska Way Viaduct to the Belltown Community Council recently. Those three options were "Arial like the existing viaduc, Boring like the Chunnel, and Cut and Cover like the Bus Tunnel." Also according to Belltown Paper, the most likely choice is "Cut and Cover" because that would replace the in-big-trouble-failing sea wall.

[Is it just us, or are you uncomfortable driving through a "just kidding because we didn't want to buy a real one" sea wall tunnel too?]

PILFERRED NEWS : NO MORE BIA?

According to SeattleIndex.com news, The BIA [Business Improvement Area] is about to lose its socks. The "No BIA!" Coalition handed the city petitions showing 71 percent support for disestablishment of the Regrade BIA. Reasons cited to disestablish the BIA were, in a nutshell, it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and doesn't do anything. Um. Ooops. Read The Article
